| Doug Long AKA "Injun Joe" Corpsmember 1978-1979 "I was one of the originals." "I was 19 back then and I am now 51. Wow time really flies! Max Ross was the Big Chief. Dick McDaniel was Little Chief and Dewey (Ike) McDaniel was a supervisor. Jim Batey came on as a supervisor later. One day he was going to show us how to load some firewood logs we were throwing in the back of our new state crew cab pickup truck. Jim picked up a stick of firewood and gave it a might toss. It landed in the back of the truck, bounced and went through the back window. LOL We all thought it was funny but Jim didn't. He told us one day "I am boss and what I say goes!" Well that speech earned him the nickname Master Batey. He hated me for starting that nickname. LOL. Thanks a lot for the blast from the past." Memories: "One of Big Chief's favorite sayings was 'You mes up you will be out on county road 3 shaking hands with mother!' One of our sayings was 'We worked hard for our two ninety!' That's right, we made $2.90 as corpsmembers." Contact: trail.tracker@verizon.net updated Aug 2007 |

| Amy (Lerch) Jerup "I will never forget the moment I pulled up to camp to get moved in. Full of excitement, I jumped out of the car and went to the office to find out where to go. I opened the door and a large Grizzley Adams look alike was towering over me. The conversation went something like this: Amy: Hello, I am Amy Lerch (slightly trembling as I put my hand out for a shake) Lurch: Whoa is that really your name? Amy: Yes, who are you? Lurch: Lurch Amy: What!!!!!! Really? (At this moment I turned white and almost passed out! It took me a week or two to actually believe him) Minutes later, I met Ted moving into his room and everything suddenly looked a little brighter. About a month later, I met Jennifer Reasoner who is still one of my very best friends. Luckily, we live only 8 hours apart and get in a vacation to Vegas about once a year."
